Overview

When our customer needed to urgently replace aging underground primary cable across six regions in North and South Carolina, they needed a team that could scale fast and execute under pressure. Infratech was brought in mid-2023 to take on what would become one of the most demanding mobilization efforts the company had faced, starting with 96 employees and ramping to over 500 at peak, in just three months.

The biggest challenges were keeping the workforce scaled to match the project’s aggressive pace and maintaining on-call and contract locating support that struggled to keep up. To stay ahead of it, Infratech held weekly coordination meetings across all six regions —Upstate, Mountain, Central, Triad, Triangle North, and Triangle South —to close gaps and keep the project on track. Infratech also stepped up to provide engineering teams that designed the end-of-life replacement work in our customer’s Triangle North region.

By the end of 2023, the team had installed 1.45 million feet (270 miles) of underground primary cable, with over a million feet replaced between August and December alone. The work also included 296,000 feet of rock drilling and 4,800 terminal installations. All assigned replacement work was completed on schedule.
