Virginia Utility Voltage Optimization Design Project

When Dominion Energy identified a widespread low-voltage condition affecting customers across Virginia, they needed a partner who could move quickly and methodically across a large number of locations. Infratech was brought in to design the facilities necessary to bring customer meter voltage up to a minimum of 116 volts, a project that required as much fieldwork and coordination as it did engineering.

The process started on the ground. Infratech teams conducted site inspections at each location, verified existing line conditions, engaged directly with customers, and documented permitting, vegetation, and environmental requirements before a single design was drawn. That field data was then handed off to the design team, who used it to develop voltage correction designs and verify each one met the project’s minimum threshold before moving to permitting and approval.

With a design team goal of 150 work orders and 300 devices per month, the project demanded both precision and pace. Infratech’s ability to coordinate field collection, design development, and permitting as a continuous pipeline, rather than a sequential one, was what kept the program on track.
